Yoga Workshop

Yesterday I was asked by my dear friend and excellent yoga teacher, Andrea Lengova, to create a simple leaflet about her upcoming workshop in David Lloyd fitness centre. I've been her student for many years now and it's always a pleasure for me to work with/for her, so there's no surprise I was once again honoured to create some marketing material for her. She was very satisfied with the design and I hope you like it too.

The workshop will be held in David Lloyd Luton centre (as I mentioned before) on 10th of May from 2-6pm; unfortunately, it's members only. I highly recommend to all members to book your space, you won't regret it!

First Day of Spring

Spring is my favourite season, it comes after (sometimes too long and too cold) winter when you already crave for some warm sun rays and intoxicating floral aroma. And it precedes summer, the warmest (sometimes too warm) season of the year when holidays and making love is our only concern. 
First day of spring, also called Vernal Equinox, is symbolism of increasing daylight, warmer temperature and of rebirth and regrow of flora and fauna. Today, the day is equally long as the night, so I hope your day will be sunny calm and beautiful. 

Funny Fact: According to folklore, only today you are able to stand an egg on its end. Lets try it and let me know your outcomes (:

Jar je mojím najobľúbenejším ročným obdobím. Jedným z dôvodov je, že prichádza hneď po zime (ktorá je niekedy až príliš dlhá a až príliš studená), vtedy už zvyčajne bažíme po nejakom tom teplom lúči slnka a omamujúcej vôni kvetov. Druhým dôvodom, prečo lúbim jar, je, že po nej nasleduje leto, najteplejšie obdobie roka, keď nastáva čas dovoleniek a ľúbenia sa.
Prvý deň jari, inak nazývaný aj Vernal Equinox, symbolizuje dlhšie dni, teplejšie počasie a obnovu rastlín a zelene. Dnes je deň a noc rovnako dlhé a teda dúfam, že váš dnešný deň bude slnečný, kľudný a krásny.

Zaujímavý fakt: Podľa ľudových zvestí je známe, že iba v dnešný deň je možné postaviť vajíčko na jeho koniec. Skúste to a dajte mi vedieť, či sa vám to podarilo (:

Why Valentine's Day?

It's 14th of February and once again we celebrate or hate today's holiday, worldwide known as Saint Valentine's Day. Have you ever thought about reason why we celebrate it and where this holiday originated from? Stories vary but all of them follows brave and romantic actions of martyr Saint Valentine. 

In 3rd century, Roman Emperor Claudius II decided that single men are better soldiers than those who are married, so he prohibited young men from marriages. Despite of this law, Saint Valentine performed marriages for young lovers in secret for love sake. Unfortunately he was discovered, imprisoned and sentenced to death for his actions. During his imprisonment he fell in love with jailor's blind daughter (here the story varies) whom he according to some legends healed and right before his death he sent her a note with "Your Valentine" written on it. 

If you want to surprise your chosen Valentine, try to create something yourselves. Don't buy merchandised products, rather be original and use your head to find out what would really make your love happy. 

And don't forget, LOVE EVERYDAY!

Original gift: Clean, paint and decoupage lids of some jars and fill the jars with jam of your favourite flavour, with some sweets and custard powder of your choice (I love the chocolate one). Put together the recipe and original gift is created. Enjoy <3

First Day of Winter

Saint Nicholas Day Celebration

In our country, we celebrate Saint Nicholas (alias Santa) day on 6th of December. The evening before, we would as children clean our shoes or prepare some stockings and leave them in front of the door or outside the window. Next morning, on Saint Nicholas day, we would find our shoes/stockings full of treats, which St Nicholas left there for us.

Christmas is more about celebrating the birth of Jesus. We still exchange gifts between each other and have huge dinner and christmas tree but our presents are brought to us by baby Jesus not by St. Nicholas. 

Saint Nicholas day is based on legends of real man, Bishop of Myra, Nicholas. Through the centuries there have been many stories told of St. Nicholas' life and deeds. However, our custom is based on the particular one, the story of St. Nicholas giving dowry gold. 

The story tells of a poor man with 3 daughters. In those days a young woman's father had to offer prospective husbands something of a value - a dowry. This poor man's daughters, without any dowries, were destined to be sold into slavery or become prostitues. When St. Nicholas heard of it, he decided to help them, but being too modest to do so openly (because of the chance of family's humiliation), he went to the house secretly and left 3 bags of gold in stockings hanged on window. (the end of the story varies)

And so every year on the 6th of December, the day when St. Nicholas died, children clean their shoes and leave them outside in hope, they would get some symbolic gifts.

The gifts are usually oranges (as representation of gold pouch), chocolate money, chocolate St. Nicholas figures or some practical gifts.

Maya's Healing Hands

A lot of little businesses are trying their luck in the competitive business world and therefore they cannot rely only on their experience but also on very good marketing skills. Maya's Healing Hands business knows very well what I am talking about and therefore this lovely lady Maya, owner of the massage salon located in Dunstable, asked me to design a brand new logo for her, which could become her new marketing identity. 

Before, she had been using online marketing services such as VistaPrint but she's quickly realised she needs to stand out from the crowd and not to use the promotional material prepared for general customers in mass production. However, she didn't want to abandon the original design from VistaPrint, which had been used by Maya for some time and she'd been recognised by it locally. Therefore, I tried to transform the original design into simplified, innovative and attractive logo, which Maya could use freely in her marketing and promotions.

Izabelle Hammon advertisement

Couple of months ago I was approached by a fast-growing marketing and branding agency based in Luton, Charlie and Leo Studios. They had received an invitation from one of the largest beauty and nail wholesaler for UK and Europe, Izabelle Hammon, to propose an innovative magazine ad for their new products, IZ LED/UV Gel and IZ Touch&Go. Therefore, they were looking for an inventive and experienced graphic designer, who could help them with the design proposal. As a woman and graphic designer I couldn't resist the attractive opportunity and I presented them a few ideas, which were very successful.

Bold Owl Design

Bold Owl Design has been established almost a year ago by my persona and since then we've been through a rough patch and also through some great victories. Now it's time to give us a last chance and I hope we'll make it work this time.

The first thing I've scratched from my To-Do-List: 

To create a great logo, which can represent what Bold Owl Design means.

It was really loooong process to come up with the right name for my company, therefore I couldn't be reckless about the visual representation of it neither.

Love Your Planet

About a year ago, I started to cooperate with non-profit organisation Love Your Planet, founded by my good friend and designer Lucia Poliovkova. The aim of the group is to spread a word about recycling, healthy living, in general to educate people about environmental topics. 

My position in the organisation was as a Creative Designer helping with recycled product designs, advertising and branding.

At first I designed logo of the organisation: 

Brief was to put together 3 keywords: Love, Planet and Recycle.

Book Cover Design

How To Be Happy In Everyday Life...

A good friend of mine planned to write a book for a long time but she didn't know where to start or what to actually write about. Then she just started to write about a life generally and a few months later there was a book. I had an honour to be among a few people who could read the draft version and I was really excited about it. Now she's dealing with last "cosmetic" changes and the book will be ready for print. 

And where is the connection with me?? Well, she asked me to make a book cover design proposal for her and I felt very touched by her request, so I tried to exceed all her expectations and make something very special for her first book ever.
